Alan is a Chartered Civil Engineer and a Chartered Permanent Way Engineer with over 44 years’ global experience in railway engineering, including a particular specialism in permanent way.
He joined British Rail's Civil Engineering Department in York as a school-leaver and has worked as client, contractor and consultant throughout the UK and overseas.
He is skilled in the implementation and management of multi-disciplinary design, including feasibility studies, from concept through detailed design to construction and assurance, including CRE, CEM, ASPRO and ICP roles.
Alan has a wide knowledge and experience in new build, upgrading and maintenance of existing infrastructure, from heritage railways through to High Speed.
He is an acknowledged team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a proven ability to lead others and to develop strong working relationships.
He has a specialist capability and internationally recognised expert in technical advisory roles for a global network of clients, with overseas experience gained in South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Egypt, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.
Alan also has access to a broad pool of qualified engineers and discipline experts.
Alan actively supports the professional development of apprentices, graduates and experienced colleagues - he is a past Supervising Civil Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and an approved Professional Reviewer for the Permanent Way Institution (PWI).
